DODGERS STILL MOVING AHEAD
 
The NL Dodgers gained a game on the Braves while taking three of four from the Yankees while the AL Yankees and Indians settled into a dead heat due to the Indians splitting their series with the Braves.

INDIVIDUAL EFFORTS

The Red Sox' Howie Pollett tossed a one-hitter vs the Giants allowing only a 5th inning single by Don Mueller to win only his second game of the season.

The White Sox Eddie Robinson regained the batting lead while the Dodgers Karl Drews picked up his 7th victory and lowered his league leading ERA to 2.13.

Larry Doby (Indians) and Yogi Berra (Yankees) are still tied at 15 home runs each.

DODGERS MOVING AHEAD
 
The NL Dodgers split while the NL Braves took three from the AL Yankees. The resurging Braves have climbed from last place in the NL to second place and only 4 games behind da Bums. Meanwhile the Bombers saw their slim lead over the Indians become even slimmer. Thirteen was a lucky number for the Giants as they pasted the Chi Sox 12-6 to break a thirteen game losing streak.  

INDIVIDUAL EFFORTS

Say no more than Harvey Haddix and Curt Simmons. Haddix 2-hit the Cardinals as the Indians won 10-0. Simmons was even better as he 1-0 hit the Braves allowing only a 4^th inning single to Dave Philley as his Dodgers won 4-0. Eddie Robinson of the White Sox continues to slide and is in danger of not being mentioned in this column again. He is now batting .339 as the Braves Ted Kluszewski leads the pack at .355.

Still no change on the pitching side as Mel Parnell of the Red Sox lowered his ERA to 1.84. Garcia (Indians) needed relief help in the 7^th inning but Hoyt Wilhem picked up the save and handed Garcia his 7^th victory tops in the BIBL.

Larry Doby (Indians) caught up to Yogi Berra (Yankees) by swatting two homers this week to end up in a tie for the homer lead with Berra at 15 each.

DODGERS MOVING AHEAD

The NL Dodgers opened a 5 game lead over the surging Braves and fading Giants while the AL Yankees saw their lead over the Indians cut by one. Let's hope the frustration in the Giants clubhouse has peaked as they are in the midst of an 11 game losing streak. The Yankees are kings at home with a 21-3 record while home teams shudder when the Indians come to town as they have a 19-5 away record. Conversely, each team is 10-10 in other venues. As history would have it look for things to stay the same as the Yankees are on the road and the Indians are at home although the Tribe faces the Cardinals, the worst team in the BIBL, in an all-orthodontic owners battle.


INDIVIDUAL EFFORTS

Eddie Robinson of the White Sox lost his lead in the batting race to the Braves Ted Kluszewski as the K-man increased his average .020 points from .344 to .364. Robinson settled in at a not too shabby .359. Duke Snider of the Dodgers continues to see his average slide from .354 to .337 to .324 and was bypassed by Alvin Dark of the Giants who slips in at .328.

Still no change on the pitching side as Mel Parnell of the Red Sox still leads in ERA at 1.90 but the Braves Robin Roberts saw his ERA balloon from 2.12 to 2.52. This past week Garcia (Indians), Drews (Dodgers), Myer (Indians), and Porterfield (Dodgers) all picked up that elusive 6th win.

Yogi Berra (Yankees) crushed two home runs to increase his total to 15 and lead Larry Doby (Indians) by two and Luke Easter (Cardinals) by three. Eddie Robinson (White Sox) settles in at 11 with Campanella (Dodgers), Al Rosen (Indians), Ted Kluszewski (Braves), and Solly Hemus (Cardinals) tied at 10 each.

DODGERS & YANKEES PULL AHEAD

The NL Dodgers and the AL Yankees have established three game leads in their respective divisions. The Dodgers and Yankees actually influenced both divisions as they tripped up the Indians and Giants respectively who were involved in division ties with the Dodgers and Yankees. The Dodgers won three of four at Cleveland and coupled with the Yankees four game sweep of the Giants the Dodgers and Yankees easily vaulted past their divisional competitors. There is still a long way to go this season with only 40 games played thus far. The NL seems more competitive not only due to Brooklyn's three game lead over the Giants but the Braves are only 5 games out and the Cardinals a not too distant 8 games. In the AL it's a different story. Three games separate the Yankees and Indians but then the White Sox are 12 games out and the Red Sox 13 games out. You might say both Sox are fading fast. Will they turn it around... we'll wait and see.

INDIVIDUAL EFFORTS

Eddie Robinson of the White Sox is making this section his own stomping grounds. He improved his BA from .358 to .361 while last week's runner-up Duke Snider of the Dodgers slipped from .354 to .337 and was supplanted by the Braves Ted Kluszewski at .344.

No change on the pitching side as Mel Parnell of the Red Sox still leads in ERA at 1.54 to the Braves Robin Roberts at 2.12. One item of note, this past week, no fewer than five pitchers, Drews (Dodgers), Raschi (Yankees), Pierce (White Sox), Porterfield (Dodgers), and Rush (Yankees) picked up their 5th win.

Larry Doby of the Indians still leads Yogi Berra of the Yankees in the home run lead by one 13 to 12 as each player hit one out in their team's series. Hemus (Cardinals), Robinson (White Sox), Easter (Cardinals) are holding at 10 apiece.

Eddie Robinson of the White Sox is making an early move for the triple crown as he is first in batting average at .361, second in RBIs at 34, and tied for third in home runs with 10.

Now nine pitchers are tied with five wins and I'm not going to name any of them here. We'll see who grabs that elusive 6th win.

TIE CITY

We have ties in both divisions. In the NL the Dodgers and Giants are deadlocked at 20-16 while in the AL the Indians and Yankees currently at 24-12 are still in a dead heat now for two weeks in a row. Things are close at the top in both divisions. The Giants lead the NL by one game over the Dodgers and in the AL the Indians and Yankees are in a dead heat.

INDIVIDUAL EFFORTS

Eddie Robinson of the White Sox is still running a blistering pace batting .358 but Duke Snider of the Dodgers is right behind at .354. Robin Roberts of the Braves lost his ERA leadership to Mel Parnell of the Red Sox 2.12 to 1.54. Larry Doby of the Indians inched ahead of Yogi Berra of the Yankees in the home run lead by one 12 to 11 with Luke Easter closing the gap at 10. We now have four pitchers tied with five wins, Mike Garcia and Russ Meyer of the Indians (not to be confused with Russ Meyer of the... never mind), Jim Hearn of the Giants, and Stu Miller of the Yankees. The Dodgers put a halt to Miller's scoreless inning streak at 23 when Pee Wee Reese knocked in Jackie Robinson with a 1st inning double. Miller settled down and 4-hit the Bums the next seven innings and with the assistance of Al Benton's 5th save beat Brooklyn 3-1.

Things are close at the top in both divisions. The Giants lead the NL by one game over the Dodgers and in the AL the Indians and Yankees are in a dead heat.

After six weeks of play Eddie Robinson of the White Sox increased his BA to .367 while Robin Roberts of the Braves lowered his ERA to 1.68. Larry Doby of the Indians and Yogi Berra of the Yankees are tied for the home run lead with 11 apiece. Robinson leads in five offensive categories (hits, BA, OBP, total bases, and HBP) while Doby (RBI & slugging, with a tie in HR) and Jackie Robinson of the Dodgers leads in two (walks and stolen bases). Jim Hearn of the Giants and Mike Garcia of the Indians lead all pitchers with 5 wins.

One item of note, Stu Miller of the Yankees, since converting to a starter just two weeks ago, has tossed two shutouts and extended his scoreless innings streak to 23.

After five weeks of play the Dodgers and Giants are tied in the NL while in the AL the Yankees have edged out the Indians by one game for first place. The Yankees have a sparkling 15-1 home record produced solely by the computer's auto play feature. GO HAL!

Eddie Robinson of the White Sox is smoking with a major league leading .364 batting average and tops in on-base percentage, slugging, and total bases. The league's pitching has retaliated by plunking Mr. Robinson a league leading 4 times in 28 games.

On the defensive side of the ball, Mike Garcia of the Indians has a perfect 5-0 record and a 1.86 ERA just .06 off the mark of league leading pitcher Robin Roberts of the Braves.
